Two types of diabetes

Type 1 diabetes occurs when a person's body does not produce his or her own insulin, so that insulin should be injected on a daily basis. It affects children and young adults most often.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or the body is not able to use the insulin it produces. It can affect people of any age, and 80% of people with type 2 diabetes are overweight.

Both type 1 and 2 diabetes have similar effects on the body, and are often treated in the same way-through regular blood sugar tests, a neat diet, frequent exercise and insulin or other medications.

Diabetes is one of the three fastest growing diseases in the world. There are currently about 190 million of type 1 patients in the world, with a growth rate of 15% per year!
